Our state-of-the-art feed mill, situated in Kinross, Mpumalanga, plays a vital role in our integrated poultry operation. The feed mill manufactures specialized feed for our chicks, ensuring they receive the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy. Our feed mill team works tirelessly to formulate and produce feed that meets the highest nutritional standards, supporting the health and well-being of our chickens. By controlling our feed supply, we guarantee consistency and quality in every batch.

Raw Material Storage

Raw Material Storage and Transfer

The majority of our raw materials are stored in the Kinross Silo. Reclamation is via an interlinked transfer system to the factory bins. We have a total of ± 11 000 ton storage capacity available at the Silo plant which includes Maize, Soya Oil Cake and Sunflower Oil Cake.

On-Site Storage

The rest of the Macro and Micro Raw Materials are stored in bags on-site and in bins allocated in the factory.

Produce

Raw Materials are continuously replenished as needed, ensuring that the required Raw Materials, for manufacture, according to the production plan, are available.

Distribution

Delivery of the feed to the farms is run by our in-house fleet and contractor vehicles. Daybreak Foods Feed mill division average deliveries to our own farms and contract growers is over 180000 tons per year with an average of 591 deliveries per month

Production

Produce & Quality

A final check is done on all loads when the trucks are loaded according to the particular product specification, ensuring product quality. Samples are send to external laboratories to verify that our products comply to all industry and regulatory requirements. Our plant is fully automated, by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) working hand in hand with other systems ensuring that the feed is manufactured in accordance with required formulas and laid down specifications.

In-Line Checks

Various in-line checks ensure that the product manufactured meets the specifications for the final product and this minimizes the presence of 'out of spec' products ending up in the final product bins, or on the farms.

Urease testing is done on soya oil cake and all loads are tested on arrival before offloading can commence.
